Deepa Sharma, MD

Saint Agnes Care is pleased to welcome Deepa Sharma, MD, FACS, FASCRS, as Medical Director of colon and rectal surgery. Dr. Sharma is double board certified in colon and rectal surgery and general surgery.

Prior to joining Saint Agnes Care, Dr. Sharma was Chief of colon and rectal surgery and Medical Director of the Nationally Accredited Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.

Dr. Sharma became interested in colon and rectal surgery after witnessing a family member deal with a colorectal condition. She believes patient comfort comes first and provides her patients with all the information required to make an informed decision. She strives to make their treatment process as seamless as possible and is committed to providing patients with the best possible care with utmost sincerity.

Dr. Sharma has 25 years’ experience in the medical field and specializes in minimally invasive colorectal surgery (laparoscopic and robotic). Her expertise lies in colon and rectal cancers, diverticulitis, polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, rectal prolapse, Fecal Incontinence and anorectal disorders.

Dr. Sharma completed her fellowship in colon & rectal surgery at University at Buffalo. She did her general surgery residency at Ascension Providence in Michigan.

Before moving to USA, she trained in the United Kingdom. She is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and has an M. Phil from Cambridge University. She earned her medical degree at KMC Mangalore in India.

Dr. Sharma is known for her excellent judgement and compassionate care. She was voted a Top Doc Detroit during her years in Michigan. Over the years, she has trained the next generation of fellows and residents, and she is very passionate about getting them ready for the challenges that await them.

Outside of work, she likes to spend time with her husband traveling and exploring different cultures & cuisines.
